Hi Trese Fans!
Sorry for the long silence concerning Trese Case Files. We’ve been busy at work on it for the last two weeks.
The last time we gave an update, we had Eric Lang, acclaimed designer of games like Blood Rage and the Game of Thrones Card game, try Trese Case Files. (You can read about that here.)
As a recap, he said that a game can either be a:
- Gamer Game: a game for tabletop game hobbyists
- Gateway Game: a game for those who are just starting out in the hobby
The last iteration of Trese Case Files was somewhere in between the two categories and we needed to set a clear direction. To help us, we conducted a survey to see how much experience you guys, the Trese fans, have with board games.
(Before anything else, thank you to the 61 people who answered the survey! :D)
The results were very clear: we had to make Trese Case Files a gateway game. Most of you said that your favorite games are light complexity games.
A Fresh Start
Given this new direction, we reviewed the current design and realized that there were too many complex elements that were core to the design. We decided we had to redo a lot of the parts of the game.
For the last two weeks, we’ve been reworking the game and simplifying it as much as we could. Last week, we finally came up with a working design that we think is simple enough to be a gateway game yet strategic enough to interest those with more experience in the hobby.
More than less, the new design still keeps the promises made in our announcement. I would even say it improves on the previous design even though it is simpler.
Last week, we had an internal playtest with friends. Early comments have been very positive and we can’t wait to share it with you guys 🙂
Right now, the game is still too early in development to be playtested publicly. There are still a lot of features that have to be added to the game. When we are ready to hold public playtests, we will announce it.
For those who have attended a playtest, the new Trese Case Files will feel completely different to what you’ve played before so please come and give your feedback on the new design. Among our friends who’ve tried all the different versions, they say this one is the best 🙂
Sadly, the release date will have to be pushed back. We are shooting for next year but it’s too early to come up with a good release date. We’d rather delay and it get it right than release something early that we don’t feel does justice to Trese. Thank you for your patience and please continue to support our endeavor 😀
